Through vulcanization cellulose papers or cotton can be turned into tough and leathery materials. While the process is well over a hundred years old, it fell into oblivion. With the development of new cellulose based materials the technique may become relevant again.

Scope:

  • Extensive literature review, to find any useful papers and patents regarding the process
  • Laboratory trials to recreate the processes found with paper and or cotton
  • Laboratory trials with alternative raw materials
  • Determination of mechanical properties of the produced material
